Employment at Will

Employment can be seen as an agreement between employer and employee.3 Both parties must be able to enter into the arrangement voluntarily and without coercion. Both parties must get some benefit from the relationship. In some cases a formal (written) employment agreement is drawn up that both parties sign. Or the agreement can be as simple as a conversation between the employer and the job applicant. It often involves a written letter describing the job the employee is being hired to do, when the employee will start working and the compensation that will be given to the employee. Or the agreement may be formalized into a multiple-page written document spelling out many terms and conditions.
